Comprehensive Legal Solutions

Estate & Trust Planning

These are the documents that help to take care of things in the days leading up to and after the end of your life.

These documents can include powers of attorney, which take care of things you are not able to, while you’re still alive; community property agreements, which assign everything to your spouse; healthcare directives that indicate what should happen when you are in a serious medical condition and have limited capacity; wills, which direct what should happen to your property/Estate after you pass; and trusts, which can break down complex instructions for after your passing, be used for medicaid and tax planning, and help avoid probate.

Probate Administration

Probates are how assets under awill are transferred/dispersed after a person passes.

Probates can be very intimidating in some other states, but in Washington they are fairly simple to record, and we can help navigate that process. It involves filing the will with the court, getting it admitted, (sometimes) posting a bond, sending notice to creditors, and working to transfer all the property before closing out the Estate. We also represent heirs who have concerns about how the executor is doing in their role.

Trust Administration

This involves legal representation of the trustee (the person who is in charge of taking care of things after the person who has set up the trust has passed or become incapacitated).

We can help make sure that the trustee does not run afoul of any of the somewhat complex laws on what trustees are supposed to do. It can often be a tricky or overwhelming process to navigate, with all the particularities that come with this role, especially for those who are new to it. We can help break this process down in an accessible, easy-to understand way to ensure that nothing gets missed and the trustee has a clear view of everything they are supposed to do.

Guardianships & Conservatorships

These are legal methods of taking care of an incapacitated person when they have not done any estate planning or appointed a power of attorney.

When someone has to make decisions for them, they can be appointed as guardian or conservator and then they will have certain duties to the respondent (the incapacitated person), and to the court. We can help establish guardians and conservators and assist with their accountings and reports. We can also represent people who want to hold guardians or conservators accountable if they are not doing their job.

Minor guardianships

These are special guardianships that involve minors, and have special rules.

TEDRA & Estate Litigation

(Estate/Trust litigation, estate planning, elder law and asset preservation) is the catch-all term that involves any litigation related to the validity, administration, or enforcement of any issues in the above areas.
